This Month in NKC History

The nine-story Sears, Roebuck & Co. warehouse (1913). Completed in July 1913, the nine-story Sears warehouse at 715 Armour Road was designed by George C. Nimmons & Company of Chicago — the same firm behind the Sears Mail Order Plant there. The reinforced-concrete building cost about $420,000 and warehoused bulky goods — farm implements, furniture, buggies — helping anchor North Kansas City's early industrial district. Nimmons described its style as “Industrial Gothic.” Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997, it's since been reused as apartments known as Park Lofts.

Completed in July 1913 — 113 years ago this month, barely a year after the town incorporated.
